SUMMARY

We work on cross-functional, complex programs and projects and need a team of strong project managers to get the job done on time, on budget, and with a high degree of quality.

The Director of Construction is responsible for the entire construction phase of the store development process beginning with site delivery and concluding with on time, and on budget, openings of +/- 50 new stores annually. The Director is also responsible for the existing store remodel program, store closures/relocations and US corporate office construction projects as needed. The Director will be expected to manage, develop and inspire a team of construction managers and others. He/she will be responsible for selecting and managing general contractors and other external partners as well as for maintaining positive relationships with internal partners (i.e.: IT, Security and Retail Operations).

  • Develop project scopes of work, budgets and calendars. Accurate and timely forecasting and reporting.

  • Assure that all stores are compliant with proper business licenses, permits, CofOs, OSHA and ADA compliance and any other compliance related initiatives.

  • Handle communications and incident management when issues arise – this requirement spans 7 days/week

  • Engage and coordinate schedules with internal partners and external vendors, such as: IT; Signage; Retail Field; Loomis; Security; Bank of America; Koch and other related vendors associated with a store setup.

Site Visits – conduct periodic site visits to monitor project progress, including but not limited to taking possession from landlords, mid-project visits and final walk thru.

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have at least ten years of retail construction experience (facilities experience an added plus)

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • Have successfully managed multiple vendors across a number of disciplines (real estate, construction, facilities maintenance etc.). Experience should include sourcing, vetting, onboarding, scheduling and SLA performance management.

  • Be able to read and interpret plans, CAD capability preferred. Have a firm understanding of health and safety regulations and state, county and federal permitting processes.

  • Be able to learn quickly and adapt to a changing environment as well as troubleshoot problems over the phone, utilizing critical thinking to ask the right questions and reach solutions.

  • Be highly organized, with strong attention to detail.

  • Be able to work well under pressure with tight timelines.

  • Must be flexible to travel 50% of the time.

  • Proven track record of leading and managing both exempt and non-exempt staff members across multiple geographies
