This General Industrial Chemist II will support Commercialization activities for North America, Europe, Asia and South America. Specific market segments within Transportation (OEM Heavy Truck, Commercial Vehicle, Trailer, Locomotive and Passenger Rail) will be the primary focus. Primary responsibilities include leading projects in the areas of service requests, quality support for current product lines, continuous improvement initiatives, technology transfers, raw material support, and development of new technologies. Additional responsibilities include support and consultation to our commercial team, tech service, and end customers. This position is based in the VAST Minneapolis worksite with approximately 15% travel within North America. CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS *Designs and executes experiments, draws conclusions, and makes recommendations *Maintaining accurate and detailed documentation of lab work and providing written updates and presentation of technical materials. *Communicates with other departments/functions and has a wide network of resources and knows who their resources are. *Function under limited supervision and be able to independently design experiments, write reports and draws accurate conclusions with limited review. *Accountable for contributing solutions to moderately complex projects. *Communicate detailed ideas concisely through written communication by writing technical reports. *Comply with and displays knowledge of all company safety policies, security policies and housekeeping standards/requirements. *Travel for customer support (new product launches and production line trouble shooting). *Train or mentor new or lower level chemists and technicians. *Additional duties as assigned. *Adheres to quality standards in accordance with the Global Business Management System. POSITION REQUIREMENTS 1.FORMAL EDUCATION: a.Required: * Bachelor of Science Degree AND two semesters of general and organic Chemistry each b.Preferred: * Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry / Engineering 2.KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE: a.Required: *3 years of coatings-specific industry experience *Formulation experience with solvent borne base coat / clear coats *Formulation experience with coatings for plastics Preferred: *5 years of coatings-specific industry experience 3.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: *Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis. *Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis. *Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. *Must be able to climb and descend stairs. *Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis. *Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. *May work indoors and outdoors as needed.
