Flexprofessionals Environmental Health and Safety Officer in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Job Description/Duties: Work independently with clients to develop and implement EHS programs including Biosafety, Chemical Safety, Radiation Safety, Hazard Communication, Emergency Preparedness, and OSHA-specific safety programs. Establish and maintain EHS permits and licenses in compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations. Work with client staff to develop EHS culture and worker safety as well as coordinate safety committees. The role does not require specific EHS experience. Ideal candidates have a science background (biology, chemistry, materials science, environmental sciences, etc.), preferably in a lab environment, and a passion for work in the life sciences. Training will be provided during the first few weeks in the role. The first week of training will be in the Bedford office location and subsequent training will occur primarily on the client site. Requirements: Strong professional communication and written skills in client setting. Must be highly organized and possess strong prioritization skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must be able to drive into Cambridge/Boston to client locations. Productivity and resiliency in a dynamic, fast-paced consulting environment. High level of professional judgment. Ability to successfully negotiate and promote safety programs and services. Service oriented with personable positive attitude. Ability to independently solve problems with little supervision but recognize when help is needed. Strong initiative to dig into resources efficiently and effectively. Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree in Life Sciences; Biology or Chemistry strongly preferred. 3-5 year?s experience in a laboratory setting or Environmental, Health and Safety experience. Familiarity with bench-scale science, biotech industry science and is able to interact and ask questions of the scientists. Knowledge of two or more: OSHA, DEP, EPA, RCRA, DOT, DPH, MWRA, NIH, NFPA, DEA, CDC regulations as they pertain to life science, nanotechnology or engineering companies. Able to become independent and well-organized operator via quick learning curve. Service oriented with personable, positive attitude Required Amount of Experience: 10 yrs professional exp, 3-5 yrs lab or EHS Required Skills: Bachelor?s degree in Life Sciences; Biology or Chemistry strongly preferred. 3-5 year?s experience in a laboratory setting or Environmental, Health and Safety experience. Familiarity with bench-scale science, biotech industry science and is able to interact and ask questions of the scientists.
