Performs expert level patient care as a paramedic and assists the Quality Coordinator and Education Coordinator with the direct observation of clinical care in the field and education of staff as directed by observations and quality indicators.


*Supervised by: Deputy Chief of System Improvement

*Supervision exercised: Directly supervises the EMS field personnel and acts as the Operations Supervisor in his or her absence.

*Quality Improvement - Provides in field monitoring and confirmation of compliance with established policies and procedures for both medical and non-medical job performance of field staff.

*Proactively provide feedback to field staff and completes all paperwork in a timely manner.

*Make recommendations for training based on KPI metrics.

*Assess patient care documentation by field care providers in the following critical areas: RESCUE format; completeness; compliance with AAS policy and procedure; system protocols; standard of care.

*Participate in periodic review and update of the ePCR software.

*Coordinate with Presbyterian Risk Management the Operations Supervisors the investigation of all high risk events. Develop action plans based on findings as needed.

*Coordinate Quality Assurance and Improvement activities with all area EMS providers and hospitals.

*Coordinate Quality Assurance/Improvement activities with the New Mexico Emergency Medical Services Bureau.

*Serve as a safety leader identifying risks and plans for risk mitigation.

*Education/Teaching - Provides education and training for orientations, carded classes and CME

*Ensure proper orientation of new personnel

*Participate in ongoing review and development of orientation criteria and best practices.

*Assist Education Commanders with instruction as needed.

*Conduct in-service training on quality issues for staff and officers.

*Maintain teaching knowledge and current instructor certifications in American Health Association Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR),

*Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support and Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS). .

*Education coordination and implementation based on CQI trends. Education coordination, planning and implementation, and planning and forecasting. Develop education based on CQI trends. Target education and CE consultation.

*Capable of performing all duties as a paramedic while demonstrating excellence in patient care and providing a role model for others

*Perform call debriefings after critical calls by making contact with personnel in the field.

*Provide input in performance evaluations of field staff to Operations Commanders.

*Provide a communications conduit between management and the employees.

*Attend and participates in Captains meetings.

*Provide mentorship to field staff.

*Maintain a professional relationship with ancillary EMS support personnel such as with individuals within other EMS agencies, hospital staff and other departments within AAS to provide cooperation, problem solving, and communication.

*Provide Medical Transport Command and Triage activities in major disasters.

*Perform other functions as required.Other information:

High School Diploma or GED and 3 to 5 years EMS experience. Associates Degree in EMS, Business, Management or related field preferred. Must be well versed in current SOG's, P&P, system protocols and expectations to the point of being able to articulate these to field staff. Current Paramedic License and related certifications required. Certification as an American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support
